Art Commitment Issues
I decided to take it as far as I thought I should take it. I didn't think overworking it would be a good idea. But that might have been my laziness trying to justify its existence.
I may have also been listening to healing incantation on loop as I painted this.
Also happy pride week Toronto. have a rainbow.

Sorry, I drew them again
I'm pretty sure I draw these two like automatically when I have little to do. But really I draw a lot more than them, but the other stuff is in my sketchbook.
soon.
That said, I developed a quicker way of painting more polished work in a quicker manner. These were both done in just over half an hour each.

Beat Painting
I actually finished it. Well. Nothing is ever finished, really. You just stop working on it - and in my case, it's usually because you start ruining it instead of making it better.
Enjoy. Comments welcomed.
I'm gonna start another one. Maybe something tamer. If you want to check the process on this again, click here.

Some Process Stuff
Hi all, I decided to post some process stuffs (on request of Sanju). There's definitely a step or two missing -- next time i'll just record it.
Thumbnails are really the bomb, also grayscale. Also I think everyone insterested in digital painting at all should watch this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DG3hPBMv_Sk&feature=relmfu
It's a very good short lecture on digital painting with a timelapse to boot.
But you'll have to buy me a better computer. Ha.
quick rough sketch, I did about a billion of these until I came up with this one.
Quick grayscale to figure out what I thought I might do.
I started to fuss about perspective and get a good idea for the environment. I decide to reference the University at Portsmouth.
I realized the perspective on Alex is off, so I readjust her a bit.
And a bit more.
200 steps later:
This is sort of in the vein of "Draw two circles, now draw the rest of the fucking owl", because I missed like 500 steps, but I got caught up in Noah Bradley's videos. I mostly wanted to capture the space of the environment but as well the energy of the scene. I also cleaned up my linework a bit so i had something to paint over and not look like an idiot.
I blocked in the colours that I'd be using for the final. Now I'm working on the final, and you'll see it in like a week.
I'm still working on it, but I didn't want to post what I have now because i'd be like lying to myself -- its not done yet.

Headshots
I was practising new techniques, trying to get shit done faster. They ended up taking longer because I kept going away and coming back.
lol oh well.

Next of Kin Cover
Here you go, here's a better cover. Drew from a few inspirations, Faith Erin Hicks included - a super talented comic/freelance illustrator from Halifax, Nova Scotia, who's also the illustrator and author of Friends with Boys. This is an odd combo, but it seemed to have worked somewhat.
I also realized that those sketches I posted last night were a complete dud without an explanation, but I won't spoil it. enjoy.
I'll be writing the story over the course of the next
I don't believe an accident of birth makes people sisters or brothers. It makes them siblings, gives them mutuality of parentage. Sisterhood and brotherhood is a condition people have to work at.-- Maya Angelou
Next of Kin is about two half sisters who struggle to see eye to eye until a fire changes everything.

Next of Kin Project
coming sometime. (probably going to aim for a page every day, then post it in a separate section of the blorg, and on a tumblr)
I decided if I'm going to amp up the interest in my graphic novel, I'm going to release short stories related to the storyline. This is a prequel.
This is just an idea I had for the cover, and while it's probably the worst cover idea I've ever come up with, it's something I doodled and I thought I'd share.

More exploration
Lol no I didn't feel like finishing the second one. or the first one really. I got distracted by Sargent.

Painting/Design Test
This was just a painting/design test, I'm trying to make her look more Indian. Incidentally, she looks more European than ever.
Ah gosh, whatever.

Quickie (har har)
Something I drew fairly quickly. I was thinking about Solace (of course, among other things) and I was thinking blasts from the past. These are two of the characters aged 18, and 9 respectively. In the storyline they're 30 and 21.
These are also brushes I purchased from Mister Bird (aka Niklas Kragh Andersen). It is the first time I've purchased brushes and while it doesn't look like I should have paid for them here, I've been playing with them all day and I thoroughly enjoy them. May purchase more in the future. I bought one of the less popular sets "Workbook", because I Wanted an ink line as well as some pencils, but he has a lot.
Painting dump
Hi folks. Hope blackout day didn't convenience you too much, not that it stopped you from browsing my blog. For comic relief's sake, you should check out Herpderpedia on Twitter, which is by the way absolutely hilarious. The moronic endeavours of students who have no idea how to look up something without a search function. Please, google was there before wikipedia, and libraries before that. I'm pretty sure you can do most work without wikipedia...
Hope you learned a lot, and that you need to convince your congressmen to vote no to SOPA/PIPA on the 24th. I thought about "drafting" the SOPA/PIPA protest post, but I'm leaving it up. The link to the petition you can sign is on there, as well as information. There's also an enormous slur on the name that is MPAA, but that's their own fault.
I was doing a bit of painting over the last couple of days, but nothing major. I did some work from that story I had "Ride of the Valkyrie" (as seen in my portfolio, which is currently cornered off, you need to ask for the password).
This painting is of the Valkyrie in the story, who's some corrupt bitch. I'm not happy with her arm, but it's just a sketch.
Obviously, obligatory Solace image. Sorry, I will actually get to the comic someday. It's a work in progress, but I've been looking at a lot of video game concept art, and I thought I'd start doing some, and I'd start with something I knew.

And a little something I did in memorium. I'll miss you Amber. 17 years is a long time to know someone when you've only been alive for 23.

Board Excerpt
I'm not a big on boarding, but occassionally I get inspired. These are the least ugly boards.

| there's some serious jersey shore going on here. |
I haven't been posting as much because it's sort of crunch time at work again. Also haven't been feeling terribly inspired. So a lot of my free time is actually spent doing anything except drawing.
