Turned out better

This one turned out better but that's because I placed a lower emphasis on getting lines in eventually.

Keep it simple, right?
I'm realizing that they look like super powered hipsters. Which I guess isn't the worst thing. Blame trends.

Thanks for keeping in touch.

Inspired by Albino Raven

And Kyu's post on facebook, where he introduced me to Glen Brogan (Albino Raven).
I decided to give my design skills a work out and - I'm rusty as hell. But I got a bit sick of the realism spree I was on. so I'm trying to get back in it.

That's ok. I'll keep trying.

AK-47

I decided that photos are ok. I can use photos if I want to.

Like in this case, where drawing the AK-47 and painting it would have taken way too goddamn long. Now I probably couldve worked on her hand a bit more. Maybe later.

Love yall.

Same Love

If you haven't heard the song "Same Love" By Macklemore and Ryan Lewis, you should probably listen to it. I have been all sorts of busy since I got into the swing of things at work and there is a hefty amount of work on my plate previously and hence forth.

But I hope to post as frequently as I can, with little musings as I always do.

So I drew this, after watching that video. This painting is a technical nightmare, but it's what came to mind (without drawing real people.)

What really brought this up, was the realization that I am the only woman in the development team in a supervisor role. I don't know why that bugged me so much - but it's been eating at me for a few days now. But feminism in gaming is a big can of worms I don't want to open on this blog. But it's vaguely correlated to this, because it is a human rights issue - realizing that you're swimming in a sea of y chromosomes and you have to tuck your bottom two prongs in to make your X look more like a Y. What? Sorry that got strange fast.

It sort of degraded into this, after listening to Same Love on loop to the point of my (somewhat hypocritical) neighbours asking me to turn it down. As far as the painting goes, I tried to keep it simple - and  I didn't go for hyperrealism or any...technical boundaries. I just said, paint it and be happy with whatever comes of it.

Hope you enjoy it.

Thanks for reading.

Some Solace Concept Art

Sorry about not posting for a while, things really picked up after I came back from Japan - which was bonkers by the way.

This is just a side view that I Did of "Lisa".

Also you should play the Last of Us, it's a wicked game.

Nyota Uhura, the Zoe Saldana version.

About 4 hours. PHotoshop CS5/Intuos4.

I definitely pantied about on this, but that's likely because I wanted to do one last thing before I buggered off to Japan. The lighting in this threw me off at first, but then I just had to remember the basics and it wasn't that hard after that.

I like Zoe Saldana, she's very pretty, but she definitely looks like she needs a sandwich.

Jean Valjean Study

time: 2 hours, Photoshop CS5 w/ Intuos4

Another study, since I started doing some concept art and immediately lost steam. But I still wanted to paint.

I'm off to Japan on Tuesday, so I can't guarantee any other artwork will go up before I go. Please like my facebook page for this blog! https://www.facebook.com/ArtOfLeishaRiddel

Character Lineup

I know people are fairly sick of me drawing these ladies over and over again, but I wanted to give a proper lineup a shot. There was a seventh, but I Totally just... ommitted her. I didn't feel confident in her design.

I might add her later. I definitely spent a lot of time just pantying about with this instead of just finishing it.

Dr. King Schultz Study

About 2 hours

I tried to include more of the environment and lost interest. Eyes are getting easier however.

Django Freeman Study

About 1 - 1.5 hours

The history behind this costume is badass.

That's all I had time for today.

Monsieur Calvin Candy Study

About an hour and a half/Intuos4

My mom loves Django Unchained.

Poor Leo. One day you'll get an Oscar.

Quick Robb Stark

About an hour on an off on Wacom Intuos 4.

I diddled about in between. Likeness improving.

Joffrey Baratheon Study

About 4-5 hours using both Wacom Intuos4/Cintiq

I had a bitch of a time with his eyes.

Still don't like them. He also kind of looks like a lesbian.

Daenerys Targaryen Study

About 3-4 Hours using Wacom Intuos4/Cintiq

So I'm pretty shat at studies, and I'm totally jelly of my Concept Lead Abe, who is literally a painting machine

so I thought I'd do one of Dany, and especially since she's literally the most wonderful thing on prime time television at the moment. It was fairly difficult, but that's because I was swamped most of the day - didn't have too much of a break - then some stuff happened.

I was going to work on my youtube channel Next Estrogen that I work on with the Voice of Reason (Rosemary) of Guys with Pencils, and I forgot a bunch of files - so that didn't happen either.
So I Finished this. Enjoy!

(so much name dropping)

Movie Time Limits

So I tried something new, take a a movie, and you have its duration to draw one character from it - however you choose.
Over the weekend I Tried Scent of a Woman, which was a more than spectacular failure because I broke my pencil and failed to have another one.

The second attempt was at Bronson

IT doesn't look a lick like Tom Hardy, but I Was distracted. :)

Not bad tho.

A quick one

I promised my coworker Matt Lau that I would draw something for myself this week. I didn't have a lot of time, so I did this today. I definitely should not have merged all before I fixed that blue lighting - oh well.

EDIT: It's great that you can see all the seams and shit where I transformed the artwork because I screwed up the proportions. I call it behind the scenes level shit.
